Recently you may have noticed a fairly dramatic change to Crafty Praxis’ website, not only have I had a fantastic new banner but I’ve got a new background too! Both have been designed by University of Huddersfield Graphic Design student Amy Davies during her time on work placement at Crafty HQ.
The banner depicts the shop’s mascot Crafty and her kittens playing in Huddersfield, with Amy’s trademark swirly clouds and tress. It also features two of my favourite Huddersfield landmarks, Castle Hill and Emly Moor Mast.
Amy has even done an autumnal version of the banner, with cold grey skies, skeletal trees and autumn leaves blowing in the Huddersfield breeze and she’s working on a winter version too so keep your eyes peeled for that in the coming months when it gets even colder!
For those of you who don’t know, Crafty and her kittens were designed by a previous placement student of mine from the University of Huddersfield, Christine R. Farrell as mascots for the shop during her time with me.

Christine, or ‘Rae’ as she’s known to friends and family, is now back home in America pursuing a career in illustration and costume design. Frequent visitors to Crafty HQ will be no stranger to the plush versions of the kittens, also made by Rae, hidden around the shop for you to find, and Crafty herself, features on our loyalty tote bags!
If you’ve not yet had the pleasure of hunting round Crafty Praxis for kittens, then what’s stopping you? Pop in next time you’re in Huddersfield and have a good look at what’s new and see if you can find all 8.
